Camp-Gite

We all just wanted to put a quick mention of the camp site that we have ended up stranded at because of car troubles. It is in Les Loges near Menesplet, in South West France and we could not have picked a much better place to get stuck.
The facilities are great and everyone here is really friendly and helpful. Near Bordeaux it is a great place to come for a holiday and the rates are really reasonable. Also the first camp site we have found with English owners, a great place to break down! (I wouldn't like explaining that in my poor tourist French!)
Their website is www.campgite.com, I recommend anyone planning a trip to France in the near future to have a look here first. You can also e-mail aquabrite@hotmail.com or telephone (0033) 05 53 81 84 39

Bonjour a la france

We are now into our third day at the same camp site just outside Menesplet, and last night we experienced the worst weather in France so far, a massive thunder storm- possibly not the best time for Sam to discover that his tent is not entirely waterproof!!

Our first post

Finally, internet access! It is day 9 of the trip and we are finally staying at a campsite with a computer.
The trip has gone a lot better than any of us had thought it would go so far. Including one rest day we made it south of Bordaux and the weather and the campsites are getting better as we go. As this is our first blog we have a few things to report.
Firstly, on the first day, Sunday 5th July, Fergus had to drop out of cycling due to injury and will form the support team for the rest of the trip. This has proved quite fortunate in fact as our support driver is no longer able to complete the entire trip and Andy is having problems with his bike so the spare parts are proving useful!
Secondly, we have hit a bit of a problem yesterday. The support vehicle has broken down! The cyclists were going strong and were well on their way to completing the trip on time, and it was the car that let everyone down. It is now in the hands of the French garage and the insurence company who promise they will sort it all out. The current situation is that we are waiting for the garage to give the verdict on whether or not the car is repairable. If it is repairable in 24 hours then they will do this and return it to us. If not then they will supply us with a hire car, although with us all being under 21 this could cause other issues. Currently we are not certain what direction the trip will take next so keep us to date with this blog and we will post any devolpments.
The place we are staying at the moment definatly deserves a mention as they have helped us out greatly. The site is called, Camp'Gite and is in a small village called Le Loges just outside Menesplet, west of Bordaux. The site is technically closed, but the owners have kindly let us stay and even loaned us the use of a car to go to the shops. Everyone here is really friendly and helpful and we couldn't have found a better place to have broken down!
Keep checking this blog and hopefully we will update more reguarly than we have been doing!
